Digital Smile Design

At Naples General & Cosmetic Dentistry, we embrace modern technology to facilitate the creation of a design that is not only precisely aesthetic but 100% aligned with your aspirations. We begin by capturing detailed images of your face, smile, and expressions. Then, we partner with the Digital Smile Design Planning Center to assess these images and develop a design that promotes ideal symmetry, ratios, and proportions of your teeth and face.

Next, a digital version of the design is made, superimposing your new smile over an image of your current one. We’ll look it over together and collaborate to make any necessary changes until it completely reflects your aesthetic goals. The final step in our Digital Smile Design process is the opportunity for you to try on a 3D-printed version of the finished design so you can tangibly interact with your new smile before moving toward making it permanent.

Conservative Smile Makeovers

We value preserving as much natural tooth structure as possible while giving you the smile that you want. In some cases, optimum aesthetics can be achieved with little to no tooth preparation required. At most, our tooth preparation involves removing a margin of enamel of only about 0.3-0.5 mm, no more than the thickness of a fingernail. The photos below show how tooth preparation for veneers compares to that for crowns. There are cosmetic dentists who will do crowns for smile makeovers, which in our opinion is much more aggressive than is needed.

In the rare case that any adjustments need to be made when you try your veneers on, we’ll take care of them and even have them re-made before bonding them on.

Our Porcelain Veneers Process

Step 1: Smile Design

To begin, we’ll gather all of the information needed to design a beautiful smile for you. This will include high-resolution photos and/or videos as well as digital oral scans. You’ll be invited to share your smile goals and any photos or pictures that encapsulate them.

Dr. Bracho or Dr. Keller will then submit all visual data (scans, photos, videos) to the Digital Smile Design Planning Center so it can be used to create a design customized to your unique facial aesthetics. When a design is developed, he’ll discuss it with you and tweak it as needed until your full vision is represented.

You’ll then have the option of purchasing a 3D-printed model of your newly designed smile so that you can even more fully experience its look and feel before committing to it. Once the design is finalized, we will have a set of provisional veneers made for you to wear following your tooth preparation at your next appointment.

Step 2: Tooth Preparation

At this visit, if tooth preparation is needed, Dr. Bracho or Dr. Keller will prepare your teeth for the placement of your porcelain veneers by gently shaving a margin of enamel off of the front surface of each tooth. This is done so that each veneer can sit flush against the surface for a smooth gum-to-tooth transition. In some unique cases, this step may be skipped. The majority of cases will require some amount of enamel removal, no more than the thickness of a fingernail and possibly even less. Once your teeth are prepared, we will take impressions of your teeth and send these, along with all design specifications, to his master ceramist for crafting.

Step 3: Try-In & Bonding

When your veneers are finished, it will be time to make your smile vision a reality! Dr. Bracho or Dr. Keller will first give you a chance to try on your new smile by applying a try-in paste to the veneers and placing them on your teeth. And once you experience the beauty of your new smile, you’ll be excited for him to permanently bond them.
